What’s it feel like when you suddenly generate buzz?

Arinze Stanley

“To be honest, it kinda adds pressure”…

Nigerian artist Arinze Stanley creates incredible painstakingly photo-real drawings in charcoal and pencil. He’s self-taught. His work is incredible. So its no wonder he’s suddenly cropping up all over creative media – from Vice magazine and Juxtapoz to no doubt more and more mainstream awareness.

He’s in the middle of that thing where a creative individual suddenly ‘goes viral’. It’s a situation many of us dream of experiencing for ourselves. But what’s it like from the inside? Arinze, what does it feel like when you suddenly generate buzz?

To be honest, it kinda adds pressure and a little bit of ‘artist block’ but at the long run I find myself coming out of it all bigger and better.

And what get’s you sharpening your pencil?

Basically I would say I’m addicted to drawing but I get inspired by virtually everything around me, life experiences and the idea to portray meaningfullness.

You have done brilliantly without any ‘formal’ training. So for you, whats the best training an artist can get?

I believe the best training any artist can get are ‘The three P’s’ according to me they are Patience, Practice and Persistence.
