What hair colour inspires the most creativity?

Bhavna

“The one that makes people go "WHAT are you!?"

Bhavna Shivayogimath is a painter, creative producer and third-culture kid who has lived in India, Thailand and the USA and is now based in Singapore. She is a self-taught artist with a background in film production and advertising. Her work is naïvely intelligent, playfully provocative and wonderfully witty. She paints on canvas, walls, bodies and anything else that takes her fancy. She painted a peacock in my agency’s reception area, which just shows how reckless she is.

Bhavna’s blue ladies are disarmingly strange, but also familiar. Corpulent and confident, they lounge around naked in exotic settings, stuffing their faces with cassette tape and noodles. We’ve all been there, right?

Bhavna, by the way, has beautiful lilac hair. It’s unclear if she was born with it.

So Bhavna, what hair colour inspires the most creativity?

The one that makes people go “WHAT are you!?

When you change something drastically about yourself that doesn’t fit into the construct of how you should look or who you are supposed to be, it breaks down a barrier of perception in a way and I think that weirdly enough gives you permission to approach things differently.

People look at you and try to figure out who you are, where you are from etc. and sometimes it confuses them but I think it invites them at the same time because we are curious beings. Observing that change in response has been quite interesting for me.

I think we inherently like to put people into neatly categorized boxes because it helps us make sense of the world around us and ourselves in relation to that. I find it more interesting to take a little bit from different boxes and explore what can be made of that.
